Cool Things of the Week 14th May
Hello! Welcome to COOL THINGS - a roundup of recommendations that I have tried and tested recently.
1. Loo roll
I don’t know why i didn’t sign up for ‘who gives a crap’ loo roll years ago. It is (basically) a toilet roll subscription service and since I signed up we have never run out of or had to buy any loo roll from the shops. But even better Who Gives a Crap donates 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.
I’m not going back.
2. Smiley lamp
Possibly the happiest light you’ll ever meet. I love this - I bought this Smiley Lamp for my son’s room but i’m quite keen to have it in mine. It’s great quality, is dimmable and has brightens up his room whether it's on or off!
3. Toastie machine
Having been a professional sandwich maker for part of my life I would like to think that I have a pretty good knowledge on what makes a great toasted sandwich (I will share this knowledge another day). One crucial element to this sandwich making is the machine you use, check out this Breville sandwich maker.
4. Anti Racist Ally by Sophie Williams
This is a simple, insightful (pocket sized) book that introduces you/us to where to start with becoming an anti-racist ally. It gets to the heart of anti-racist principles and clearly demonstrates how we can stand up for bias, inequality and injustice. This is an important book that I urge you to read, it challenges things we have been taught and will help us/the reader be part of the change.
5. PODCAST: Your own backyard
I LOVED this podcast. It’s a well edited investigation into the disappearance of a student. I like to listen to true crime while I do the boring things like washing, cleaning and tidying up - and let's just say my house has never been clearer.
6. STAPLE dress
If you are looking for an incredibly comfortable, easy to wear, great quality, sustainably made everyday clothes then check out Staple. They are a Margate based brand who made their clothes with no wastage.
7. Weleda Citrus Hand and Nail Cream
This Weleda Citrus Hand and Nail cream has saved my over washed and sanitised hands. My hands no longer look (so) old and dry - I would highly recommend this stuff.
8. Gold huggie hoops
You may (or may not) know that I'm a huge gold hoop earring fan - I wear a pair of varying sizes every day. My latest additions are these beautiful huggie hoops from Daisy Jewellery - they are so comfortable and cool!
